German Design Award

The German Design Awards are the international premier prize awarded by the German Design Council.
Its goal: to discover, present, and honour unique trends in design. Every year, high-calibre entries in the fields of product and communication design are honoured, each of which blazes new trails in the international design landscape. The German Design Awards, launched in 2012, are among the most prestigious design competitions worldwide and have an excellent reputation far beyond specialist circles.

The competition sets the highest standards for selecting the prize winners: thanks to the unique nomination process, only those products and communication design projects that demonstrably exemplify outstanding design quality are eligible to participate.
The German Design Awards are presented by the German Design Council, the authoritative German body for branding and design. Its prestigious commission: to represent the world of German design.
Established as a foundation in 1953 on the initiative of the German Bundestag, the German Design Council supports the international industry in consistently achieving brand value via design, making it one of the world’s leading centres of expertise in communication and knowledge transfer in the area of design.

This year, there were more than 5,400 entries in total, including 2,925 applications from outside Germany. The CM-M6, a multi-angle spectrophotometer, received a “Winner” prize which is presented to outstanding products in the Industry category. (The commendation ceremony is scheduled for February 2019.)

iF DESIGN AWARD

Each year, the world's oldest independent design organization, Hannover-based iF International Forum Design GmbH, organizes the iF DESIGN AWARD. The CM-M6 won over the 63-member jury, made up of independent experts from all over the world, with its ability to stably measure the exterior colors of curved surfaces and its design, which enables easy handling and reduces measurement workloads. The competition was intense: over 6,400 entries were submitted from 54 countries in hopes of receiving the seal of quality.
(The commendation ceremony was held on March 9, 2018.)

Features of the award-winning products

This multi-angle spectrophotometer can evaluate the metallic or pearl colors of automobile exterior parts with curved surfaces, such as the main body and bumper, with constant stability. With its ability to better detect color differences and its small size and light weight, this model meets customer needs and delivers greater usability at production sites. The product is compact and lightweight at 1.1 kg. The vertical type spectrophotometer is easy to hold and achieves stable measurement with a single hand.
The CM-M6 also won the Good Design Award 2017 in Japan and the Special Jurors Prize of the FY2017 Machine Design Award in Japan.
