Compliance with International Criteria for Information Security Evaluation
Using IT products and information systems in today's environment poses risks of security problems such as unauthorized access, virus infection and information leakage which cause incidents and accidents involving damages. To prevent such problems, security measures for MFPs and printers became more important.
Konica Minolta is continuously striving to counter security attacks surrounding MFPs and printers by installing the latest security functions on our MFPs and printers so that our customers use the products with peace of mind.
It is our policy to acquire Common Criteria (CC) certification to objectively demonstrate the reliability of security functions of the products.
The CC certification involves evaluation by a third-party (evaluation facility)*1 according to the international security standards ISO/IEC 15408 and certification of the evaluation results by a certification body*2.

*2: The ISO/IEC 15408 evaluation does not guarantee all security functions of MFPs or printers.
What are Common Criteria (ISO/IEC15408)?
Common Criteria (CC) refer to international criteria for information technology security. It is used for evaluating if IT products and systems are appropriately designed and implemented.
CC was internationally standardized as the ISO standard (ISO/IEC 15408) in 1999, and in Japan, the JIS standard (JIS X 5070) was established based on CC in 2000. In 2001, "IT Security Evaluation and Certification Scheme (JISEC)" was established.
JISEC is a system where security functions and the security assurance level of IT products are assessed by a third-party organization based on ISO/IEC 15408 and the results are officially certified. In 2003, Japan joined Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA), and the JISEC-certified products shall now be acceptable by all CCRA member countries.
*“JISEC-certified products” refer to those certified by “Japan Information Technology Security Evaluation and Certification Scheme (JISEC)”. JISEC is a scheme in Japan. Under the scheme, a third party (evaluation facility) evaluates appropriateness and reliability of security functions of IT products based on ISO/IEC 15408 which is an international standard for security evaluation criteria, and results of the evaluation are certified by a certification body.
This scheme is mainly utilized for the procurement of IT products by the government.
At present, JISEC is operated by its certification body, Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA).

*Of JISEC-certified products, those that are certified based on Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA) are referred to as “CC-certified products” and considered to have obtained ISO/IEC 15408 certification.
