Konica Minolta Supports the UN Climate Change Conference (COP15) in Copenhagen
Tokyo (October 2, 2009) – Konica Minolta Holdings, Inc. is pleased to announce that Konica Minolta has been selected as a main sponsor of the UN Climate Change Conference, COP15 (the 15th Conference of the Parties), to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark from December 7 to 18, 2009.
COP is an annual conference held by the member parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) to reduce atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases with the goal of “preventing anthropogenic interference with Earth's climate system.” The overall goal for the upcoming COP15 is to establish an ambitious global climate agreement for the Post-Kyoto Protocol from the year 2013 onward.
Sponsorship for COP15 includes the provision of more than 30 units of Konica Minolta bizhub color multifunctional peripherals (MFPs) and monochrome production printing systems. For the conference, up to 15,000 official participants from about 180 countries are expected to take part in the conference including government representatives, journalists, and member of international organizations and NGOs. The bizhub series, securing high image quality while conserving energy, will meet the printing, copying, scanning and faxing needs of all UN participants and delegates prior to and during COP15.
Konica Minolta is pursuing the global environmental consideration throughout the life cycle of its products from research and development to procurement, distribution, sales, usage and recycling. Within the MFPs life cycle, the usage stage accounts for a major portion of its total energy consumption. By introducing polymerization toner and IH fusing technology together with reviewing the heat control system, the newest high-speed color MFP significantly reduced energy consumption even compared with the previous model which won the Energy Conservation Grand Prize for Excellent Energy Conservation Equipment of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry last year.
Regarding global environmental preservation as corporate management itself, Konica Minolta is making efforts in reducing environmental impact from time to time. As the severity of environmental problems accelerates, it became essential to manage environmental issues from a long-term perspective. With this understanding, Konica Minolta formulated Eco Vision 2050 for a sustainable Earth and society as its goal, and Medium-Term Environmental Plan 2015 as a milestone marker toward the goals outlined in its Eco Vision 2050.
In Eco Vision 2050, Konica Minolta set the target of reducing CO2 emissions by 80 percent from fiscal 2005 levels throughout products life cycles by 2050. For the Medium-Term Environmental Plan 2015, we have set the target of reducing CO2 emissions by 20 percent from fiscal 2005 levels.
Konica Minolta will endeavor to further reduce environmental impacts through developing innovative technologies in the environmental and energy fields, in addition to promoting environmental measures in the existing businesses.
